ACHS rebounds to blow out White Castle

DONALDSONVILLE – Ascension Catholic rebounded from their first loss of the season with a 45-6 District 6-1A victory over White Castle Friday night at Floyd Boutte Memorial Stadium scoring all of their points in the first half.

The Bulldogs (7-1, 2-1), ranked No. 8 in Class 1A, were coming off a 22-19 loss to third ranked Southern Lab and will host top-ranked Kentwood (8-0, 3-0) Friday night in another district clash.

Ascension Catholic out-gained White Castle (3-5, 1-2) in total yardage 293-241 with both teams losing a pair of fumbles. Rodney Blanchard completed 8-of-20 passes for 97 yards and Dorian Barber rushed for 65 yards on seven carries.

Barber got things started with a 9-yard run before Blanchard scored on a 2-yard run and completed an 8-yard touchdown pas to Alex Hebert as Ascension Catholic built a 19-0 first quarter lead.

The Bulldogs poured it on in the second frame as Blanchard scored on a 5-yard run and hit Tre Medine on a 15-yard scoring pass. John Broussard added a 20-yard touchdown run and Barber finished off the half with a 34-yard scamper into the end zone.

White Castle’s lone score came on a 26-yard pass from Javier Baptiste to Unique Young in the fourth quarter.
