DONALDSONVILLE – Ascension Catholic got a walk-off solo home run from Mason Zeringue in the bottom of the seventh inning to claim a 6-5 District 6-1A victory over Ascension Christian Thursday evening at the South Louisiana State Fairgrounds’ La La Regira Field.
The Bulldogs took an early lead on Jacob Dunn’s solo home run in the first inning and made it 4-0 on a two-run double by Tre’ Medine.
Ascension Christian cut the deficit to 4-2 on a two-run double by Nic Montalbano in the top of the second inning.
Montalbano was 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs, while Andrew Landry was 1-for-2 with an RBI.
Zeringue was 1-for-2 with two RBIs for Ascension Catholic.
Zeringue’s sacrifice fly extended the lead to 5-2 in the bottom half after Parker Hales and Dunn each drew walks.
Ascension Catholic started Rodney Blanchard on the mound and then went to Sam Mire before Hunter Walker finished it out. Hunter Jacobs pitched in relief for Ascension Christian.
Landry added an RBI single in the third to cut it to 5-3 and Montalbano’s two-run home run knotted it up in the fourth following a single by Tristan Trahan.
