Donaldsonville rallies by E.D. White late

THIBODAUX – Donaldsonville High School scored the winning touchdown with less than two minutes remaining to defeat E.D. White 12-7 in the District 9-3A opener Friday night at Harvey Peltier Stadium.

The Tigers (5-1, 1-0), under coach Brian Richardson, have now won five straight.

Robert Kent returned a punt for the go-ahead score for Donaldsonville after a punt return by E.D. White (2-4, 0-1) into the end zone was negated by a penalty on the previous possession. Datjuan Harris intercepted Cardinals’ quarterback Caulin Griggs to seal the victory.

Neither team gained more than 200 yards on the evening and combined for four turnovers and 10 punts.

Jaquavious Turner gave Donaldsonville the lead on a 17-yard touchdown run in the second quarter before E.D. White went ahead 7-6 at the half on Griggs’ 39-yard touchdown pass to Grant Gauthreaux.

The Tigers continue district play hosting rival and No. 1 ranked St. James (6-0, 1-0) Friday night at Floyd Boutte Memorial Stadium.
