LUTCHER – Lutcher High School scored four second quarter touchdowns to pull away from Tara on the way to a 44-0 shutout Friday night and set up a District 6-4A showdown this week.
The Bulldogs (6-3, 3-1), coached by Dwain Jenkins and No. 12 in the Class 4A power rankings, hosts Plaquemine (7-2, 4-0), the No. 11 rated team, at the Dog Yard Friday night with a share of the league title on the line.
A Lutcher victory could force a three-way tie between the Bulldogs, Green Devils and Parkview Baptist (3-6, 3-1), who defeated the Bulldogs 36-27 earlier in the season and close out the regular season hosting Woodlawn.
Lutcher senior quarterback Kolby Bourgeois threw four touchdowns in the win over Tara (1-8, 0-4) and was 9-of-16 passing for 218 yards. Adrian Butler had two touchdown receptions and Rashon Williams and Cam Amato each had one.
The Bulldogs took a 3-0 lead in the first quarter on a 32-yard field goal by Noah Detillier and then poured it on in the second frame.
Bourgeois connected with Butler from 36 yards out, Williams from 11 and Amato from 23 and Rasuan Storks added a 10-yard touchdown run to give Lutcher a 31-0 halftime lead.
Butler added a 21-yard touchdown reception from Bourgeois in the third quarter and Da’Mario Brown scored on a 29-yard run in the fourth to reflect the final tally.
