LUTCHER – Lutcher High School scored late following a turnover to push past Donaldsonville 25-18 in a District 9-3A contest Friday night at the Dog Yard.
The Bulldogs (4-5, 2-2), coached by Dwain Jenkins, allowed Donaldsonville to tie the game 18-18 with 4:41 remaining in the fourth quarter.
The Tigers (6-3, 2-2), under coach Brian Richardson, knotted it up on a 26-yard touchdown pass from Treveyon Brown to Jamarcus Miller on third-and-goal.
However, Lutcher’s Chris Burkhalter forced a fumble on the Tigers’ next possession at the DHS 42 and D’Wayne Winfield scored the winning touchdown on a 6-yard run.
Lutcher took the early lead on a 29-yard field goal by Logan Bourgeois in the first quarter but Donaldsonville led 12-3 at the half following Raeland Johnson’s 3-yard scoring run and Brown’s 20-yard touchdown pass to Malik Robertson.
Lutcher owned the third quarter as Mekhi Patterson scored on a 3-yard keeper and Winfield added a 7-yard scoring run with 4:14 remaining in the quarter following Ty Cooper’s blocked punt.
Lutcher wraps up the regular season at Patterson (2-7, 0-4) Friday night, while Donaldsonville hosts Berwick (3-6, 1-3) at Floyd Boutte Memorial Stadium, both district matchups.
