WALKER – Walker High broke through with its first bi-district playoff victory in four straight tries Friday night with a 63-21 Class 5A victory over Thibodaux.
The 16th seeded Wildcats (8-3), under first-year coach Chad Mahaffey, won only their second ever playoff game after falling in the first round the past three seasons. Walker’s other playoff victory came over Bastrop in 1999.
Wide receiver Brian Thomas had 10 receptions for 194 yards and three touchdowns including a 76-yard score to open things up in the second quarter. Thomas also scored on a pair of 13-yard receptions and had an interception defensively.
Ethan McMasters completed 19-of-25 passes for 285 yards and Demetri Wright rushed for three touchdowns and 154 yards on 19 attempts.
Thibodaux (7-4) quarterback Luke Alleman threw for 301 yards and one touchdown but was intercepted twice. Alleman also had a rushing score for the 17th seeded Tigers.
The Wildcats advance to face top seed Acadiana (11-0) in the second round Friday night in Scott. The Wreckin’ Rams defeated No. 32 Benton 78-28 in the bi-district round.
