No. 3 seed ACHS rolls over Riverside Academy

DONALDSONVILLE – Ascension Catholic jumped out to a big lead and cruised to a 55-20 Division IV first round playoff victory over Riverside Academy Saturday afternoon at Floyd Boutte Memorial Stadium.

The undefeated third seed Bulldogs (10-0, 4-0), coached by Benny Saia, are the District 7-1A champions and were state runners-up the past two seasons.

Ascension Catholic rushed for 446 yards in the win led by senior running back Jai Williams with 213 yards and three touchdowns on 19 attempts. Khai Prean added 93 yards and two scores and Eric Simon produced 89 yards and another score.

The Bulldogs had beaten 14th seeded Riverside Academy (3-8) 35-22 in Week 2. Rebels’ quarterback Gage Larvadain was intercepted twice including one that that was returned 86 yards by Demontray Harris for a touchdown.

Ascension Catholic will host sixth seed Southern Lab in the quarterfinals Friday night. The Kittens (7-3) defeated St. Edmund 53-7 in the first round.
