VACHERIE – St. James High ran roughshod over Berwick in a 45-0 District 9-3A victory Thursday night at Wildcat Stadium.
The Wildcats (8-0, 3-0), under coach Robert Valdez, are ranked No. 1 in the Louisiana Sports Writers’ Association Class 3A poll and outgained Berwick in total yardage 346-20.
St. James senior quarterback Shamar Smith threw for 165 yards and three touchdowns on 7-of-11 passing and added 68 yards rushing and two more scores.
Running back Sean LeBeouf contributed 101 yards rushing on 12 attempts including a 30-yard touchdown run to give St. James a 31-0 halftime lead.
Logan Gravois (31 yards), Shazz Preston (21 yards) and Kaden Williams (39 yards) each had touchdown receptions in the second quarter and Alec Mahler kicked a 24-yard field goal in the first stanza
Smith scored rushing touchdowns (1 and 32 yards) on the Wildcats’ first two possessions of the second half to reflect the final tally.
St. James hosts Patterson (2-6, 0-3) in another district matchup Friday night.
